View Full Version : That magical time is getting closer ...
I woke this morning to my  tender cool breath. The low for this week is 4-degrees C, and I am finding it difficult to contain myself.
I know it is snowing somewhere in Alberta, and that is the only place I want to be right now (any day away from the mountains or not skiing is a bad day)!
Soon (but not soon enough) I'll be :-) on my Mega porky planks (skis).
:( I NEED SNOW!

It's still summer over here, and I'm still enjoying it!! I don't think I'm ready for snow yet, but I've never been skiing or snowboarding, so maybe I'm missing out! :D
Many of my friends and family find it funny that a good old Italian boy cannot handle the heat and prefers the winter season.
Mindy, at the very least you should try one of the snow-sliding sports (I do not recommend snowblades/skiboards - there is a bad saying about those type).
Me, I recommend telemark (freeheeling), because of the steep learning curve as well the level of physical output required is greater than the other shooshing disciplines.
Boarding (the 'grey tray') is fun, but I'll save it for when my knees can no longer handle tele'n.
Here is a video of what a freak like me is into (no, it is not me in the video - same style but I am more aggressive):

Enjoy!
i'm not a snow fan.. i'm a costal type of guy. i don't know how peeps can deal with snow storms and below freezing temperatures. guess i'm just a wussy :D

:-) Hey Paco!! Thanks for the vid!! That looks like a lot of fun!
The poles always look so frail to me though. . .are they sturdier than they look?
kbbq :
No, you are not a 'wussy' (I am not a big fan of that term). I simply believe you like something different, which is cool (I do not want to be part of a world were every person loves and hates the same thing/s).

I am sorry to read your getting a little water-logged. I will perform my little sun dance for yah, right after I am done shakin my ass for snow.

Yes, it is a blast, and a serious workout. Buns, abs, calves and thighs of steel!
Some ski poles are actually very strong (mine are carbonfiber and very flexible) but they are not actually meant for support.
Many people make the mistake of planting their poles firmly or too deep, forcing them to deal with the problem of removing it.
