Leeching pics and vids.

Heres a good question ,
I know of a couple of guys who spent months grabbing all the free pic galleries they could , By cracking passwords a,d other means that i dont know of ,
They then set up their site and sold it as their own stuff. , (no commission to the original pic owners) .
wouldnt this be illegal , ,
Im sure it cheating , but wouldnt there be a lawsuit heading their way ??

If the site from which they have copied hasn't any copyright on their pictures, then legally you can't take any action.

However, Google can punish those sites who put duplicate content and images from other sites.

That is not true ... You have copyright protection from the moment you publish in any viable medium.

The difference is in what kind of damages you can sue for.

Unregistered works can only sue for actual damages .. in the case of a few pics it would normal be all the money made by using them.

If the works are registered you can get statatory damages and attorneys fees as well. Statatory damages are often very large and are basically intended to be punitive in nature.

Bottom line is that using someone elses material without permission is wrong and could potential have severe financial ramifications.
